Created as part of a workshop hosted by Ariane Schick at the Wiener Holocaust Library in London, England, this artist's book traces the empty spaces found in pre-1940 family albums recovered after the Holocaust. At once a meditation on loss, postmemory, and the speculative archive, these layered vellum pages attempt to record the un-recordable, gesturing toward evidence left by missing photographs: dried glue residue, recessed picture windows, and torn album pages. Such physical traces signify archival objects that still remain incomplete, and—more importantly—the interrupted family histories they represent.
