HOME SWEET HOME (2023)
assemblages, drawings, monotypes
This series of assemblages and monotypes, inspired by the life of Iby Knill, speaks to her process of relocating to West Yorkshire and beginning a new life after liberation from Auschwitz. Meditating on themes of loss, recovery, and rebuilding, and using materials that are traditionally associated with the domestic space, I aim to disrupt the traditional understanding of the Holocaust archive as a depository of trauma. By focusing on the threads of Iby’s regenerative ‘nine lives’ (as she liked to call it) after the Holocaust, I encourage the viewer to consider a side of history that is often overlooked: the resilient, hope-filled, and often messy process of rebuilding.
